By DAN BENSON Posted: Aug. 1, 2004 Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry will kick off a two-day swing across southern Wisconsin tonight with an appearance at Pere Marquette Park in downtown Milwaukee. Kerry is scheduled to appear at 7:15 p.m. The park will be open to the public at 4:30 p.m. Kerry will be accompanied by his wife, Teresa Heinz Kerry, but not by his running mate, North Carolina Sen. John Edwards, who is scheduled to be in Florida today. Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett also will appear on stage with Kerry, said George Twigg, a Kerry campaign spokesman. In an attempt to draw youthful voters, Twigg said, Dave Grohl of the rock band Foo Fighters will perform at the rally. Tonight's rally is the first stop on Kerry's bus tour across southern Wisconsin. On Tuesday, Kerry will travel by bus to Beloit for a town hall meeting and then head west, concluding his day in northeastern Iowa. Kerry's Beloit appearance will be held at the Jerry W. Edwards Activity and Sports Center. The event is limited to invited guests; gates will open at 10:30 a.m. The Wisconsin visit is one leg in a 3,500-mile, 21-state, two-week tour, dubbed the "Believe in America" tour, that began in Boston after the Democratic National Convention and will end in California. During the tour, Kerry is expected to reiterate his stance on issues he addressed at last week's convention, especially health care and employment in the manufacturing sector. "Those are issues that resonate especially strongly with Wisconsinites," Twigg said. Streets around Pere Marquette Park will be closed to traffic during Kerry's appearance. Grohl has been actively campaigning for Kerry around the country, and the Foo Fighters recently contributed a track to the CD compilation “Rock Against Bush Vol. II”.
