Hi kids-

Sorry that I don't have much to update lately. Kind of quiet, huh?

You can enjoy this though. Ain't he cute?

Dave was at the White House as previously mentioned on our May 25 update helping honor Sir Paul McCartney. I don't have much yet on it, but Veronica sent in this photo:

Did Dave get a new jacket? (That's a joke from Las Vegas). You will be able to catch this on PBS stations on July 28, 2010 here in the states.

Here's a link to Dave singing at the White House (Thanks, Leigh!)

Memorial Day weekend this year was pretty much the best holiday weekend to kick off the summer that I've had in a long time. I got to spend some time in New York City; got to see The Black Hollies in concert in Brooklyn; got to hang out with really great friends in Jersey City, New Jersey, and I got to go to the 30th anniversary of the 9:30 Club in Washington, D.C. and you'll NEVER guess who showed up! Uncanny how I just happened to be in the same place at the same time as Dave. Weird.

Check out that line up along with Dave. I seriously think my favorite "new" band is Clutch. They're not new. It's just that I have been ignorant to them. Holy cow they were awesome. That Neil Fallon's crazy eyes .. you gotta go see them if they're ever in your area. He scared the crap out of me. I loved it! And what's even more nuts is that his sister is Mary Alice from Ace of Cakes / Charm City Cakes. I've heard her talk about him on the show. Sheesh. Crawl out from under your rock, will ya, Leecy?

So here's what I can tell you about the show. Yes, Dave played a solo version of Everlong. Then he was joined by Pete Stahl & members of Bad Brains & Scream. Here's a link to a review and here's a bit about Dave:

Rounding out the solo, guitar, samurai performances of the evening was the invite-hinted-at, surprise guest of the night. DC-area-rooted, international rock superstar Dave Grohl did indeed show up to play. He was met with loudest cheers of the night as he walked on stage and strapped on his baby-blue guitar. Grohl told Rollins that he had a half-finished Black Flag tattoo that he tried to give himself when he was twelve. Then Grohl told a story about getting his first record made thanks to a hook-up with Corrosion of Conformity drummer Reed Mullin at the old 9:30 Club. After muttering thanks to all his friends, Grohl launched into a great version of the Foo Fighters' song "Everlong" which got the crowd singing along. It was a sweet moment. A lot of guys hugging their gals from behind and swaying to Grohl's honest lyrics and guitar swoons.

Being the true class act that he is, Grohl made his set less about himself and more about his old band-mates in Scream who he invited on-stage to perform with him. Grohl played guitar while Scream's original drummer Kent Stax (the guy he replaced in the 80's) took the kit. Fritz Stahl was the only Scream member not present. This impromtu Scream reunion was awesome. Pete Stahl sang a melodic, soulful version of their old tune "Chokeword" and then the group launched into not one, but two Bad Brains songs.** They played "At The Atlantis" (in honor of the 9:30 Club's original name) and "Stay Close To Me" (a b-side Rollins noted he had never heard played live). The Grohl/Scream/Bad Brains set left everyone in the crowd buzzing with good old DC Hardcore P.M.A.

Fritz? WTF?

It looks like Dave had two new tattoos. They look to be feathers and there's one on the back of each arm.

Also, let me say that after Dave played Everlong and then was joined by the other guys, I witnessed what I hope is not going to be a trend. Some genius behind me yelled as loud as he could, "FRESH POTS!!"

Don't be that moron. I honestly think Dave heard it because the look on his face was priceless. Like 'Fuck me..I gotta live with this shit now.'

First it was the Mentos, and now Fresh Pots. Knock it off, people. I can't confirm obviously that he heard it but it was definitely loud enough and the guy was right behind me and I was in the front row. Just stop it now. Nerds.

Here are a couple of photos that I took. To see them all CLICK HERE.

Kelsey sent in her photos that she took back in February at the Them Crooked Vultures concert at Roseland in New York City. I'm just now getting around to uploading them. So thank you, Kelsey for being so patient and I apologize for taking my sweet time. Life. Crazy. Etc.

That's all I have at the moment. I'll be blogging about my weekend a little later so check that out if you're completely bored. Link to the left.
